Date | Thursday, 1st August 2024 |
---|---|
Summits | Scafell Pike, Scafell & Lingmell |
Start | Wasdale Head (NY182075) |
Route | Ascent to Scafell Pike via Lingmell, avoiding the tourist route. Dropping to Mickledore before ascending Scafell via Foxes Tarn. |
Company | Rachel, Tim, Jo, Andrew |
Weather | High cloud during most of the ascent, opening out to sunny intervals. Occasional patches of low swirling cloud. |
Notes | Advised by cottage owners to be at the National Trust car park by 7am. Actually, this was unnecessary - the car park doesn't typically fill on weekdays. However, it meant we climbed in the cool of the day and got great views from the top before the cloud closed in later. Three Tornados flew extremely close overhead as we approached the summit of Scafell. |

Start | Keswick Youth Hostel |
Route | Less well trod route to Skiddaw, then the other summits in the order listed above. |

Weather | There was a lot of cloud and we got a bit soggy on top. |
Notes | At our lunch stop we have a good view of a big sailing race on Bassenthwaite Lake. We wished we hadn't added Dodd as an extra summit - it was surrounded by a vast cloud of flying ants and the path back was non-existent owing to forestry work that had recently taken place. |
