Scafell Pike

DateThursday, 1st August 2024
SummitsScafell Pike, Scafell & Lingmell
StartWasdale Head (NY182075)
RouteAscent to Scafell Pike via Lingmell, avoiding the tourist route. Dropping to Mickledore before ascending Scafell via Foxes Tarn.
CompanyRachel, Tim, Jo, Andrew
WeatherHigh cloud during most of the ascent, opening out to sunny intervals. Occasional patches of low swirling cloud.
NotesAdvised by cottage owners to be at the National Trust car park by 7am. Actually, this was unnecessary - the car park doesn't typically fill on weekdays. However, it meant we climbed in the cool of the day and got great views from the top before the cloud closed in later. Three Tornados flew extremely close overhead as we approached the summit of Scafell.
